North of England Mule gimmer lambs average £109 at Skipton

North of England Mule gimmer lambs averaged £109 to get the breed’s main autumn sale season off to a cracking start when just over 7000 lambs were sold at Skipton Auction Mart on Tuesday.

Tupping lambs were a similar trade to this sale last year and were making within £5 of 2011 values. The best lambs were changing hands at £130-£145 but any good, dark-faced lambs were readily selling for £120-£140. Lighter-faced lambs of the same quality were making £105-£120.

Running lambs sold well with not many making less than £90 apiece; darker-faced, strong runners were £90-£100.

Top price was £295 for a pen of 10 lambs from John Mason, Embsay, Skipton and bought by Michael Allen, Whitby.
