Ettrick Texel in-lambers to 4800gns

 

The Gray family’s noted Texel flock sold a shearling gimmer by Knock Reebok at 4800gns at Borderway Mart, Carlisle when it staged a reduction of females.

 

Held alongside the dispersals of the Tweed and Grey Peel flocks, the Ettrick consignment saw 14 ewes average ÂŁ708 and 12 gimmers average ÂŁ1137.

 

G and S Brooke, Earlston, Berwickshire took the top priced Ettrick gimmer and returned home with a trailer load of the choicest gimmers on offer from Gordon and David Gray. Their 4800gns purchase was out of a ewe by Castlecairn Kung Foo and was in-lamb to the Garngour Nobleman son Knock Papoose – a successful show winner and already sire of a 26,000gns daughter.

 

An undisclosed buyer gave 2100gns for an implanted embryo by Proctors Spectacular and out of a Knock Papoose ewe that was a second prize winner at last year’s Great Yorkshire Show.

 

Messrs Brooke were in again at 2000gns to claim a Knock Reebok gimmer out of a Teiglum Nevada ewe. She was in-lamb to the Foyle View Superstar son Ettrick Tartan Special.

 

The Grey Peel flock of Messrs Hardy-Bishop based at Jedburgh in the Scottish borders reached a best of 2600gns twice. The first bid came for a Knock Papoose gimmer and out of a Cambwell Laird ewe. This high index gimmer is in-lamb to Cwmcerrig Top Man and heads for Chesterfield, Derbyshire with D and S Prince.

 

Leading Aberdeen Angus breeders Mr and Mrs John Moores from Liverpool gave 2600gns for a Cowal Paco sired 2010-bred ewe out of a dam by Grey Peel Lear Jet. She is in-lamb to the ÂŁ15,000 Grey Peel Rambo.

 

The Tweed flock owned by Neil Crighton at Berwick-on-Tweed achieved a best of 2400gns given by J Robertson and Son (Becks) and Co, Langholm, Dumfriesshire for a 2010-bred ewe by Tweed President. She is out of a ewe by Langford Leader and in-lamb to Teviot Rocket – a son of Mitchellhill Paparazzi bought at Kelso in 2011.

 

Averages: Tweed -71 ewes ÂŁ512; 40 gimmers ÂŁ546. Grey Peel – 35 ewes ÂŁ543; six gimmers ÂŁ563. Ettrick – 14 ewes ÂŁ708; 12 gimmers ÂŁ1137 and two recipients ÂŁ1417.
