Welsh Blacks hit 12,200gns at Dolgellau

 

Dol Jan 13 002 web.jpgThere was a cracking turnout of both cattle and people for the first sale of the year for the Welsh Blacks last week.

 

Both regular and new breeders headed to Dolgellau which saw a top call of 12,200gns.

 

Hitting the high was bull Ysgethin Twm from Mr William Gwynfor Evans, Eithinfynydd, Talybont, Bermo, Gwynedd.  Sired by Trefaes Twm 2nd and out of Ysgetin Mona 2nd, he was second in his class and was sold to breeder D G and B Thomas, Llandeusant, Llandadog.

 

This bull was followed by another from the same vendor, Ysgethin Twm 2nd, which made 8,200gns and was sold to Mr RJ Evans, Llanbedr, Gwynedd. This one was also by the same sire as the previous bull but out of Llechwedd Mona 22nd.  

 

The pre sale champion from Mr Emyr Jones realised 6,600gns. Graig Goch Berwyn 74th (ET) is sired by Brysgaga Erddyn 42nd out of Graig Goch Marian 30th. He sold to Mrs Eirian Griffiths.

 

Two bulls went on to make 4,500gns, the first was Machreth Daniel 14th from Lewis R Williams, sired by Machreth Berwyn 10th,  selling to Mr H L Gwynne, Llandeilo and the second was Caerynwch Banner 7th from TW Williams& Co with and he sold to EW&MM Jenkins Talybont Ceredigion.

 

Well known breeder Rowland Rees, Brysgaga sold his Aug 2011 born bull, Brysgaga Berwyn, sired by Penwernhir Seraff and out of Brysgsga Menna 56th, to G R Phillips, Abergwaun for 4,400gns.

 

The last bull in the ring and the youngest was from Michael Jones,  Deiniolen Major (ET), a bull sired by Caerynwch Major 6th and out of Deiniolen Non 20th.  The bull was unsold but sold afterwards for 4,000gns to DR Jones, Tywyn.

 

Among the females, the champion maiden heifer prize went to well known breeder Mr Emyr Jones, Graig-Goch Herd, Nebo. Graig-Goch Meriel 19th was a June 2011 born heifer sired by Ysguboriau Brenin 75th out of Graig-Goch Meriel 14th.  She created swift bidding and was knocked down to A Morgan Farms, Aberdare for 4,300gns.   

 

Reserve Champion Maiden Heifer was another from Emyr Jones, this one was second in her class to the champion heifer.  She was Graig-Goch Ceri 29th having the same sire but out of Graig-Goch Ceri 17th,  a very nice correct heifer, selling to A Jones for his new herd at Llansilin Oswestry for 2,800gns.

 

The champion female was Neuadd Gwenno 114th from D William Jenkins, Neuadd- yr Ynys, Taliesin, Machynlleth, Powys.  She was born May 2010 and sired by Cennen Arwel 7th out of Neuadd Gweno 89th.  She had been running with Ynysfor William 4th, was in-calf and was sold to A Morgan Farms, Aberdare for 2,700gns.

 

Averages:  Females: Six 2-3yr old, 1,452gns; 39 1-2yr old, 1,117gns; six under 1 yr old, 590gns. Bulls:  14 over 18 months, 3,3889gns, four 12 – 18 months, 4,750gns
