Saler bull tops beef breeds at 4500gns at Carlisle
Rigel Rome from north-east Saler breeders Rigel Pedigree led the bidding at 4,500gns when four beef breeds staged society fixtures at Borderway Mart.
A son of successful sire Amazonien he goes to W and A Aitken, Peebleshire.
John Wood from Fife topped the Beef Shorthorn section when his bull Wells Edward – by Dacre Rock Star – made 4,200gns to E Belchier, Ayrshire after taking the reserve championship.
Top ticket went to B and J Landers, Newton Stewart with Cairnsmore Eric. He made 3,200gns to W Muir, Stromness.
Glasgow-based Harvey Bros earned 4,000gns when their bull Harveybros 1 Humphrey led the Hereford entry and sold to Onlsow and Kewley, Lockerbie.
Lumbylaw Halcyon 14th from A R Lee, Alnwick, Northumberland was the dearest South Devon bull making 3,400gns to K and A Watchorn and Sons, Melton Mowbray.
Averages: Beef Shorthorn- 16 bulls £2447; 26 served and maiden heifers £1702 and seven cows served or suckling £2182. Hereford – six bulls £2441 and one cow and calf £23100. South Devon – two bulls £3045 and seven maiden heifers £829. Salers – one bull £4725.
