New oral vaccine for ileitis

An oral vaccine for ileitis in pigs, which is added to drinking water for consumption over a four-hour period, has been launched by Boehringer Ingelheim Vetmedica.

The prescription-only vaccine, Enterisol Ileitis, is licensed for use in healthy, weaned pigs from three weeks old.

Protection lasts from three weeks post-vaccination for at least 17 weeks.

Boehringer says producers in Germany and Canada report improvements in liveweight gain and reductions in bodyweight variability at slaughter.
