Dingwall anniversary sale champion sells for £1,500

A total of 1,308 store cattle went under the hammer at the annviersary show and sale at Dingwall Auction Mart this week.

And the title of show champion, awarded by judge Mr D Fraser, Easter Clune of Lethen, Nairn, went to 630kg Limousin cross heifer from Tom Henderson, Udale, Poyntzfield.  This one sold for £1,500 to Fraser Brothers Butchers, Dingwall.

In reserve was a 565kg Limousin cross bullock from The Firm of J. Munro, Invercharron, Ardgay, which sold for £1,280 to A. Cumming, Tillydesk, Ellon.

Bullocks (795) averaged 215.1p (+16.2p on the year) and sold to 277.3p/kg for a 440kg British Blue cross from Coldhome Farm, Fortrose, and £1,380 gross for a 630kg Limousin cross from 141 Burnside, Kinlochbervie.

Heifers (513) averaged 205p (+14.5p on the year) and sold to 338.9p/kg for a 360kg Limousin cross from Lyne of Urchany Farm, Nairn, and £1,500 gross for the champion, a 630kg Limousin cross from Udale.

Auctioneers at Dingwall and Highland Marts said:  “Due to the wet weather and lack of sunshine, cattle were not shown in the same bloom as last year, but overall averages showed an increase of 16.2p/kg for bullocks, 14.5p/kg for heifers, and £48.41 a head gross.”
