Student business backs charity
Food Supply Management degree students at Loughry Campus have been selling fresh fruit and vegetables to staff and fellow students as part of their first-year Young Enterprise Graduate Programme.
The students set up their own company, Gimme 5, linking to the “five a day” healthy eating campaign for fruit and vegetables.
As part of the project, they had to source produce, negotiate terms with suppliers and deliver to customers.
The business is based on-line, with produce supplied by local company Quinfresh.
“This is a great way to apply the business principles we are currently being taught,” said Gimme 5 managing director Julie Bayne.
All profit is being donated to Marie Curie Cancer Care.
