Tea producers aim for self-sufficiency

MALAYSIAN tea producers have plans to become self-sufficient in tea production, reports the Financial Times.

Malaysia currently produces around 7 million kilos of tea and imports 3m kg to meet domestic demand.

The paper says this target will inevitably mean an expansion for the Boh Plantation, which produces 4m kg annually or 60% of the market.

The company is making efforts to rebrand itself and appeal to a younger generation of tea drinkers.
