Defra secretary Liz Truss will contact new EU farm commissioner Phil Hogan today (11 September) to press for an early review of the three-crop rule.

Speaking on the three-crop rule during a farm visit in Norfolk Ms Truss said: “We want farmers to be able to produce the food that people want to buy, not what is written on the list and not a tick box process.”

She added that she was keen to work with Mr Hogan who takes up his post on 1 November.
