Free range egg discussion group goes from strength to strength

Since its creation in 2005, the Midlands Free Range Discussion Group has gone from strength to strength with an average 60 members attending each meeting in 2007.

As Tony Warner explains, the original aim was to provide a social and business environment for free range egg producers and allied poultry companies. Both sectors have responded with great enthusiasm with membership approaching 80.

One strength of the group has been the high quality of speakers. “We’ve had Hannah Naseem from ASDA giving a supermarket’s view on retail trends and most recently, Alan Beynon from the St David’s Veterinary Practice gave us his “ponderings on frothy droppings,” said Mr Warner.

Workshops have also been arranged where producers can learn more about routine management issues such as vaccine administration.

Next year’s programme kicks off on 20 February (see 4 Jan Poultry World for details) and if you want to join, contact Stuart Hinchly at HST Feeds on 01270 500300.
