Alistair chuffed with yields in Shropshire

Alistair Home-Roberts was about 85% through harvest at Berwick Grove Farm, Shrewsbury, with just 55ha (135 acres) of spring barley and wheat to do.

“The wheat has done very well – we’re very pleased with it,” he said. Yields had ranged from 8.6-12.4t/ha (3.5-5t/acre) – about 2.5t/ha (1t/acre) above average.

“Bushelweights are fantastic – way over the 72kg/hl we need. We’re chuffed to bits.”

Westminster spring barley had yielded about average, reckoned Mr Home-Roberts, and the remaining 14ha (35 acres) was late-drilled so was looking fine.

Castille, Bravour and Lioness oilseed rape had all yielded about 4.3t/ha (1.75t/acre), which was very pleasing, he added.

Combined with an unbeaten second wheat yield and a balanced disease resistance profile, this new variety from Syngenta Seeds will help UK growers rise to the challenge of producing more grain profitably.
