An all too average oilseed rape harvest

“The crop is good on the whole and is pretty much the same as our 5 year average.

“It’s nothing to shout about, but we’re happy so far.”

The rape is coming in at approximately 3.95t/ha (32 cwt/acre) with a moisture content of 12% at the start of harvest which has consequently dropped to 6% due to recent dry weather.

“The crop is all standing well and is easy to cut.”

However Mr Horn is not completely happy.

“I’m very frustrated, even with new varieties we’re stuck on yields.

“The cost of growing is increasing each year, which means that if yields don’t increase then we’re effectively going backwards.”
