Another successful barley harvest

Mr Savidge, who farms 570ha (1,400acres) in Herefordshire has just finished combining the 21 ha (52 acre) crop, part of which is under contract.

“This is a lot better than last year,” he added.

Mr Savidge‘s Sequel barley yielded 8.65 t/ha (3.5 t/acre) at a specific weight of 66 kg/hl

“It‘s definitely better than average, we normally get 3 t/acre (7.41 ha).”

However he said that some of the storms in recent weeks had hit his farm hard.

“The barley went down but it didn‘t really affect the crop itself.”

With the current stint of good weather Mr Savidge hopes to “be pushing on” with progress on harvesting his grass seed.
