BBRO launches 4% yield initiative

The British Beet Research Organisation wants to provide the information and advice to increase yields by 4% over each of the next four years, Colin MacEwan, head of BBRO, announced.
To help growers achieve what he described as a “tough target”, a new 4×4 yield initiative was being launched, he said, with targeted production clinics at the heart of the plan.
“The key to reaching that target is to provide more targeted information to growers, so we will be trying to match production clinics on particular topics to those growers that need that advice,” he told Farmers Weekly.
Those clinics would be led primarily by experts from a network of excellence, who would also be delivering a world-class trials and demonstration programme.
Currently, yields are improving at a rate of 2.5% a year.
