Cancer studies to be monitored

THE GOVERNMENT‘S Advisory Committee on Pesticides has said that research into a possible connection between prostate cancer and pesticide exposure should be monitored and kept under review.
This is in line with a recommendation recently made by government health advisors.
The Committee on Carcinogenicity found after a research survey that prostate cancer may be linked to pesticide exposure and that farmers and farm workers appeared to be at greater risk than people in other occupations.
The Pesticide Safety Directorate issued a statement saying: “The CoC recommendations indicate no reason for concern in the light of current knowledge.”
It also emphasized that the CoC report did not claim to establish a causal link between exposure to pesticides and the occurrence of prostate cancer.
