Cereals 2007: new winter bean variety
A new winter bean variety, Sultan, with yields 8% higher than Wizard and similar export potential, should be available to growers in 2008.
According to Peter Smith of Wherry’s, Sultan is a short, stiff type with the pale-skinned appearance required for the export market.
“It’s a step forwards because it combines a yield increase with the right quality characteristics,” he says.
