Cheap Wiltshire harvest

David Hues said he had been held back a little by wet weather at the weekend in Wiltshire.

Wheat harvest was about average with 480ha (1200ac) of Claire and Einstein yielding 9.4t/ha (3.75t/ac) across first and second wheats.

“I’m quite pleased, it has been about average, but since it has been quite a cheap harvest I’d say it has been good.”

Quality was fine, and a third of the crop had been sold already. Next year he planned to grow Claire, Alchemy and Zebedee.

He said he would probably not grow Cellar spring barley again next year because it did not fit in with the rotation.
