Combine cuts last wheat on shropshire unit

Shropshire farmer Guy Davies hoped to finish his winter wheat today (August 24) and tie up the 28ha (70 acres) of Cocktail spring barley tomorrow.

“Our wheat is about 1.2t/ha (0.5t/acre) down,” he said. The 445ha (1100 acres) of Alchemy, Gladiator and Einstein had averaged 9.3t/ha (3.8t/acre), with busheweights all above 72kg/hl.

“The Einstein tested at 12% protein, 200 Hagberg and 76-78kg/hl so it will be millable.”

The 49ha (120 acres) of Carat and Boost winter barley were very pleasing at 9-10t/ha (3.6-4t/acre), as were the 162ha (400 acres) of Castille and Astrid oilseed rape, which yielded 4.6t/ha (1.85t/acre) and 4.1t/ha (1.65t/acre), respectively.
