Combines roll on Einstein winter wheat in Surrey

Giles Porter of Penn Croft Farms resumed winter wheat combining last night and was busy combining at nine o’clock this morning near Farnham in Surrey.

“We’ve been running quite well and it’s been good to have a couple of nice days.”

He had cut 8ha (20 acres) of Alchemy  from his total 640ha (1600 acres) of wheat. At 23% moisture, it was going, “OK,” he said.

He had finished 240ha (600 acres) of Claire and Einstein, which both came in at 12% protein; Both had bushel weights of 76-78 kg/hl, yielding around 10t/ha (4t/acre) with Hagbergs above 300.

“Wheat will be done and dusted with a week’s good weather,” Mr porter added.
