Huge linseed demand fuels high spring contract offers

A £600/t spring linseed contract for the 2026 harvest has been launched in response to rising demand across food, feed and industrial markets.

The updated contract from Premium Crops provides solid gross margins and agronomic benefits, making it a dependable and profitable choice, says the company.

“Growers are looking for profitable, low-risk break crops, and spring linseed ticks all the boxes,” says Nigel Padbury of Premium Crops.

“Demand for UK-grown linseed remains extremely high, and this new contract gives farmers a secure market and a strong fixed price at a time when margins are under pressure.”

Top performer

Looking at varieties, Premium Crops’ latest assessment places Nulin50 at the top of the 2026 variety assessment table for overall performance.

It ranks highest when considering yield, oil content and alpha-linolenic acid content together – making it a standout choice for spring sowing.

Nigel says its elevated alpha-linolenic acid levels make Nulin50 particularly well suited to high-value markets focused on premium feed and nutrition.

Agronomy

Growers will also see improvements in agronomic support this season.

A new Extension of Authorisation for Minor Use for Emerger (aclonifen) expands the list of pre-emergence herbicides available for spring linseed.

This is alongside options such as Avadex (tri-allate), Katamaran (metazachlor + quinmerac) and Callisto (mesotrione).

This broader herbicide toolbox strengthens early weed control and helps protect yield potential from the start.

“In conclusion, our spring linseed contract is designed to give growers confidence,” Nigel says.

“Demand is already strong – now we simply need more UK growers to make the most of this opportunity.”
