Duncan Whiteman sits 700ft up waiting to begin harvesting
Harvest has been going on all around Duncan Whiteman’s Arlescott Farm, Telford, Shropshire, but being 700ft up he is usually the last to start.
“We sprayed the 30ha (75 acres) of Camion winter barley with roundup on Monday (14 July) and should be into it next Tuesday or Wednesday (22/23 July),” he said. “It’s got a bit of weed in it and looks a bit short but the heads are good.”
Mr Whiteman expected to spray the 30ha (75 acres) of Castille rape off on Friday (18 July), so wouldn’t be into that for another fortnight.
That would be followed by 121ha (300 acres) of wheat and 12ha (30 acres) of linseed.
