Few concerns in Kent
Last night’s showers didn’t cause much concern for Kent farmer Peter Francesconi.
Missing most of the rain, he said things were going very well with oilseed rape and milling wheat finished and barley well on its way.
Although he hadn’t accurately calculated yields, Mr Francesconi said his initial feelings were that it has been an average year with an expected yield of around 1.5t/acre for the rape.
It was the first year that Castille had been grown on the farm and results were pleasing with it performing better than Pollen and Lioness.
Milling wheat Soissons had done better than expected and Hereward had also performed well, both with bushel weights of over 80 and moisture content of 15%.
