Fife wheat underway, but yields likely to be down

Farmers Weekly Farmer Focus writer Andrew Peddie started his wheat this week at Cornceres Farm, Fife, and expected yields to be slightly down.

“We’re into our second field of Robigus at 17% moisture and it looks reasonable. But there are a lot of blind sites in the head so I think yields will be less than the winter barley,” he said.

The winter barley averaged over 10t/ha (4t/acre), while the oilseed rape averaged 3.7t/ha (1.5t/acre).

“The forecast is looking ok for five to seven days – in 10-12 days we shouldn’t have much left.”

  • Crop: Winter barley
  • Yield: 10t/ha (4t/acre)

  • Crop: Oilseed rape
  • Yield: 3.7t/ha (1.5t/acre)
