Finished wheat at Broglasgow
Richard Kane has finished combining wheat at Broglasgow House, Myroe, Londonderry, leaving just 24ha (60 acres) of spring barley to cut.
“The past 10 days have been great – but we’ve had an inch of rain today (6 September).”
Istabraq, Diego and Grafton winter wheat averaged 10t/ha (4t/acre), and the 12ha (30 acres) of Westminster spring barley cut so far had yielded 7.4t/ha (3t/acre), with large straw yields.
“There’s not much left around here – we’re down to the last 10%,” he said.
The remaining Westminster would be ready by the end of the week, and was looking well despite the rain.
Oilseed rape, drilled 10 days ago, was now coming through and looking good, he added.
