Fortnight extension for Atlantis

FOLLOWING DELAYS to many spraying schedules this season, Bayer CropScience has extended the standard cut-off date for sales of one of its grass weed herbicides.

The cut-off date for Atlantis (mesosulfuron-methyl + iodosulfuron-methyl-sodium) has been put back two weeks to April 15, after which date spring sales will cease, the firm said.

Cold weather at the end of February and the beginning of March effectively denied growers a fortnight of spraying opportunity, explained Bayer‘s Barrie Hunt.

“Extending usage on Atlantis gives growers much-needed catch-up time. Although some weeds are growing uncomfortably large, we‘ve not yet seen any reach the critical stem extension stage.”

But growers should not take this latest announcement as a relaxation of the guidelines for using Atlantis and should stick to recommended rates, he warned.

“Above all, don‘t use Atlantis plus biopower as a stand-alone solution for blackgrass or ryegrass control.

“If you haven‘t used an effective autumn pre-treatment or if further grass weed germination is anticipated then Atlantis must be accompanied by a residual partner.”
