Frustrated near Lewes
William Greenwood has been rained off at Swanborough Farm, Lewes, East Sussex, today (19 August), but he hopes to be combining again tomorrow.
“It’s frustrating because we only have about four days left to finish harvest.”
So far he had cut 100ha (250 acres) of Einstein winter wheat, which was coming off at 15-17% moisture and yielding about average at 8.9t/ha (3.6t/acre).
That left 16ha (40 acres) of Einstein to finish, and 40ha (100 acres) of Claire to combine.
“Everything is standing and looks okay. There are no mycotoxin problems at the moment, and we sprayed it off so there’s nothing green sprouting in it.”
Crop: Winter wheat
