Harvest 09: Halfway near Ely
Harvest is about halfway through near Ely, Cambridgeshire, according to Anthony Morbey, who is now combining first wheats at Cole Ambrose.
“I am less than halfway, but I have got neighbours who are nearly finished.”
Mr Morbey had finished his oilseed rape and second wheat, which disappointed on the heavy land due to the wet autumn.
The 80ha (200 acres) of Solstice yielded 7.4-8.6t/ha (3-3.5t/acre) – about 1t/ha (0.4t/acre) below average.
However, the 28ha (70 acres) of Castille oilseed rape was pleasing, at 4t/ha (1.6t/acre).
Peas had yielded reasonably well so far, and the Robigus and Solstice first wheats looked promising, he added.

Duxford winter wheat is an HGCA Recommended List 2009/10 variety with very high UK treated yields and a maximum 9 rating for resistance to lodging with and without PGR. Combined with the highest second wheat yield and a balanced disease resistance profile, Duxford will continue to help UK growers meet the challenge of producing more grain profitably.
