Harvest 09: Pleased in Hereford
Jamie Rogers has finished harvest at White Hall Farm, Hampton Bishop, Hereford, and is pleased with above average yields where crops established well.
“Quality was good, and yields were good where the crops got away well, but on the heavier land they struggled a bit with flooding.”
Good growing conditions meant second wheats performed extremely well, averaging over 7.4t/ha (3t/acre), while first wheats almost reached 10t/ha (4t/acre)
Castille oilseed rape also yielded better than normal, at 4.3t/ha (1.75t/acre), said Mr Rogers.
He was expecting to start drilling winter wheat tomorrow (18 September), having sown all the oilseed rape.
“We could do with a bit of moisture to help it get up and away.”

Duxford winter wheat is an HGCA Recommended List 2009/10 variety with very high UK treated yields and a maximum 9 rating for resistance to lodging with and without PGR. Combined with the highest second wheat yield and a balanced disease resistance profile, Duxford will continue to help UK growers meet the challenge of producing more grain profitably.
