Harvest 09: Starting OSR near Telford
Richard Bruckshaw made a start on his oilseed rape at High Ercall, Telford, Shropshire, yesterday (27 July).
So far he had cut 16ha (40 acres) of Excalibur at 11.5% moisture, and an average yield of about 4t/ha (1.6t/acre).
With a short window of dry weather forecast today, he was continuing through the remaining 36ha (90 acres) of Excalibur and Flash, which was sprayed off two and half weeks ago.
That would be followed by 40ha (100 acres) of spring barley and 100ha (250 acres) of winter wheat, all of which looked well, he said.
Crop: Oilseed rape
Variety: Excalibur
Area: 16ha (40 acres)
Yield: 4t/ha (1.6t/acre)
Duxford winter wheat is an HGCA Recommended List 2009/10 variety with very high UK treated yields and a maximum 9 rating for resistance to lodging with and without PGR. Combined with the highest second wheat yield and a balanced disease resistance profile, Duxford will continue to help UK growers meet the challenge of producing more grain profitably.
