Harvest finished last weekend
“It has been a poor year all round really,” he said, after his crops yielded badly.
The dry May did not help the winter wheat and led to poor establishment amongst the spring wheat, he added.
His Malacca winter wheat yielded below 8.65 t/ha (3.5 t/acre).
But both the Malacca and his Paragon spring wheat had high proteins and high Hagbergs.
Nearly all of it made milling quality, he said.
He is glad he used Malacca, following reports from a neighbouring farmer who said his Hereward had lost most of its hagberg falling number.
Mr Cooper is now ploughing and preparing the land so he can start drilling by the middle of next week.
