“We managed to get it cut in a dry week, and all the straw baled and in,” he said. “We’re very thankful as a lot of our neighbours haven’t got cutting at all.”
The 34ha (85 acres) of Boxer and Camion averaged 7.9t/ha (3.2t/acre) – well above the normal average of 6.8t/ha (2.75t.acre).
“Some barley has been cut in the last two days around us – people are just going out and getting it cut whenever there’s dry weather, regardless of the moisture content.”
