Harvest Highlights – Preparations for wheat harvest in Co Antrim
Gerald Erwin of Nutts Corner, Crumlin was busy preparing stores and trailers for wheat harvest.
Twenty-five hectares of Einstein winter wheat was ready for cutting following Roundup (glyphosate) desiccation, but poor weather was holding him up. “We’re waiting for the weather now,” he said.
Mr Erwin had cut 2ha (5 acres) of Pearl winter barley for feed that yielded 5.5 t/ha (2.2 t/acre) with a 21% moisture content.
He also had around 35ha (87.5 acres) of OK-looking Static spring barley ready for Roundup (glyphosate) treatment, which he intended to begin within the next fortnight.
