Heavy Beds land withstood drought
Clinton Dunmore of Souldrop, North Bedfordshire associated his good yields of wheat and rape to the heavy land withstanding the drought.
Yields of 3.5t/ha for Castille rape and 8t/ha for both Hereward and Malacca wheat was lower than the potential but were still pleasing for Mr Dunmore.
Moisture content was also pleasing with 6% for the rape and between 12-16% for the wheat.
300 tonnes of wheat have already left the farm but the remaining is being left to sell around Christmas time. Mr Dunmore predicts that the price will increase around Christmas due to other European countries’ wheat production being heavily affected by the droughts.
The advice he gives to others is: “Don’t sell more than you have to till Christmas”.
