James finishes in Angus
James Porter finished harvest at West Scryne, Carnoustie, Angus, on Monday (22 September), having finally got started again on Friday after 12 days off.
Wheat yields had been above average at about 10t/ha (4t/acre), although there were 10-15% sprouted grains in the sample.
Spring barley yields were also better than normal, at around 7.4t/ha (3t/acre).
“Yields in Scotland have been generally average or above average,” said Mr Porter.
Although harvest was two to three weeks behind, he reckoned most farmers would finish up this week.
