Jonathan thrilled with yields in Lincs
Jonathan Booth finished harvest a week ago at Ranby Hall, Market Rasen, Lincs, and was thrilled with his wheat yields.
The range of varieties, including Oakley, Humber, Istabraq, Sahara, Zebedee, Einstein and Emerald, averaged about 11.1t/ha (4.5t/acre), considerably above last year’s 8.2t/ha (3.3t/acre).
“We’re very pleased with the wheat – we’ve never had so much. The sheds are just full of wet wheat.”
Zebedee proved to be the star of the show, while Humber underperformed by 2.5t/ha (1t/acre), said Mr Booth.
The oilseed rape also yielded above average at 4.3t/ha (1.75t/acre).
Mr Booth was now trying to drill rape for next year. “We ended up broadcasting some yesterday (4 September) because it has been so wet.”
