Yorks company Sumo unveiled its first true cereal drill at the show.

Dubbed the Versadrill, it has been designed to work in any conditions, including direct into stubbles. Up front, a bank of winged soil-loosening tines can be run to a depth of 300mm. Mounted on their own toolbar, these can be folded up out of work when not required. Following this, two seeding units run either side of each leg. Sourced from N Irish manufacturer Moore, these comprise a semi-pneumatic tyre running ahead of disc-coulters and a following cast press-wheel.

This arrangement between Sumo and Moore comes as a result of the end of a long-standing agreement between Sulky and the N Ireland company. The original Moore Unidrill will continue to be built for grassland operations, but arable customers will now be offered the Sumo Versadrill in its place. 4m, 6m and 8m versions will be available and the smallest – with a power requirement of 180hp – will cost £51,355.
