Maize harvesting gets under way in Carlisle
Seen harvesting 500acres of forage maize is farmer contractor Stephen Little, on his dairy farm, Kirkbride, near Carlisle on Tuesday 19th September.
The crop had a fresh weight yield of nearly 51 tonnes/ha (20tonnes/ac) with exceptional grain fill and maturity. The crop is destined to be fed as part of a TMR to the 230-strong Solway pedigree Holstein Herd.
The trials, organised by Grainseed and Agrovista, are looking at new developments in growing under plastic and varietal choice in relation to these.
