He had cut 20ha (50 acres) of Solstice last week, which yielded well above average at 10t/ha (4t/acre). “It’s the best yield we’ve ever had – unfortunately it’s taken away the protein,” he said.

The sample had a good Hagberg, 81kg/hl but just 11.2% protein.

Mr Orlick hoped to be into the rest of the Solstice today, at about 19% moisture, which would be followed by winter oats and Hereward.

He had finished the 40ha (100 acres) of Lioness oilseed rape, which disappointed at 3t/ha (1.4t/acre).

 Syngenta

Duxford winter wheat is an HGCA Recommended List 2008/09 variety with very high UK treated yields and the top score for resistance to lodging with PGR. Combined with an unbeaten second wheat yield and a balanced disease resistance profile, this new variety from Syngenta Seeds will help UK growers rise to the challenge of producing more grain profitably.
