New herbicide for barley growers

WINTER BARLEY and wheat growers have a new herbicide option for controlling blackgrass, DuPont has announced.

Bullion, is a flupyrsulfuron-based product using SX technology, that received recommendation in winter wheat and as a pre-emergence herbicide in winter barley, the firm said.

It is recommended for use at 20g/ha and can be tank mixed with trifluralin, pendimethalin and Crystal (flufenacet + pendimethalin).

“Complete blackgrass control will still be reliant on a follow-up treatment and all currently registered blackgrass herbicides can be used as required,” said the firm’s Neil Morey.

DuPont trials last year found a 2% improvement in blackgrass control in barley where Bullion plus trifluralin was used, compared to the current standard Crystal and Liberator (diflufenican + flufenacet).

While exact pricing has not yet been agreed, Bullion will be “competitively priced compared to existing pre-emergence products available at the moment,” Mr Morey added.

The product will be available in 120g jars, enough to treat 6ha, the firm said.
