New spring variety show promise

EARLY TRIAL results look good for the new ‘alternative‘ wheat variety, according to Hampshire-based Premium Crops.

The variety, ADS 75, is currently undergoing National List trials and should join the National List in December 2005, according to the firm‘s Edward Willmott.

“All the feedback so far has been very positive. Quality has held up very well, we‘ve only had one failure on Hagbergs, the rest have been over 250.”

Being an ‘alternative spring variety‘ ADS 75 can be sown from mid-November through to the spring, he added.

Premium Crops supplies seed against buy-back contracts for crops such as linseed and lupins.

The company hopes that providing ADS 75 on a similar contract type will provide growers with greater confidence when marketing their crop.
