Nickerson to host 52 variety demonstration plots

The Nickerson stand at Cereals 2010 will incorporate 52 variety demonstration plots, including 14 new varieties never previously seen at the event.

A key feature of this year’s display will be the Innovation Centre, which will highlight the scale of the company’s investment in plant breeding and the science and technology/techniques now involved in plant breeding and the contribution this work makes to agriculture.

The centre will also demonstrate how plant breeding is enabling pests such as orange wheat blossom midge that was once controlled by chemicals to be controlled in the crop genetically.

Modern technologies and methods which complement conventional plant breeding will be highlighted as well as how royalties are re-invested in creating new and improved varieties with better agronomics and end-user characteristics.

Nickerson will be holding a press briefing on the Nickerson stand at 9am on the first day (9 June), with the theme being Innovation in Plant Breeding and its contribution to UK agriculture. There will be an opportunity to discuss them with members of the Nickerson breeding team.
