Norfolk barley and OSR look above average

Winter barley and oilseed rape harvest looked above average this year for Duncan West in Diss, Norfolk.

Seventy hectares of Sequel, Colossus and Pearl winter barley yielded slightly over average at 8.8t/ha. He said the quality was good and he was pleased it all came in dry.

Oilseed rape also yielded slightly above average at around 4.6t/ha, with variety Astrid looking higher so far.

Mr West added: “We had to dry everything as the moisture was between 10 and 13 or 14 percent.”

He hoped to be into the wheat harvest by the end of the week and said the quality could be good if the sun shines.
