On top of harvesting in Herts

After three weeks work Warren Scott, of Scott and Scott, Buttermilk Hall Farm, Buntingford, was finishing the last of his 640ha (1600 acres) of NK Bravour and Catalina oilseed rape today.

He said the dry April had affected rape crops and expected yields to range between 2.75 t/ha (1.1t/acre) on light land and 3.75t/ha (1.5 t/acre) on heavy land. He said these figures were around 10-15% worse than last years.

Mr Scott had finished 100ha (250 acres) of Solstice winter wheat and 100ha (250 acres) of Carat winter barley and intended to start his 80ha (200 acres) of Optic spring barley as he expected very good weather.

Mr Scott said, “We’re right on top of the harvest, we’ve had lucky weather and have been busy all the time, we’re doing well.”
