OSR success story in Norfolk

He’s harvested just over 40 ha (100 acres) of Winner at 4.94 t/ha (2 t/acre), but he thinks the average yield will be more like 4.32 t/ha (1.75 t/acre) with 8% moisture.

Mr Papwork said that oilseed rape hasn’t been grown on the farm for 15 years now.

“We’ve been very, very lucky. We got some moisture in autumn which really helped with the establishment of the crop.”

Mr Papwork still has another 20 ha (50 acres) to harvest and has finished harvesting his barley.

His Pearl barley was not quite the same success story with Mr Papwork saying the yields were very average while Nitrogen levels were variable.

He says that the variable nitrogen levels may be due to “patchy rainfall”.

“I’m not completely sure, but it’s definitely weather related.”
