OSR yields well before rains

A week of wet weather had stopped play for Edward Whitefield in Lincolnshire.

He said oilseed rape yielded reasonably well at 3.5 – 4t/ha on lighter land, and slightly more on the heavier land. He said this was better than last year, and the oil content was 42 and 44.5%.

Mr Whitfield said: “I’m reasonably pleased [with the crop], but not happy with the price.”

He was yet to start combining Cordiale and Hereward due to 18% moisture levels, and he said it was not drying due to the muggy weather.

The wheat had ripened early after being hit by the drought in July but he was concerned for Hagberg levels after the rain this week.
