Phoma to increase

Phoma stem canker is set to become more widespread and severe due to global warming, according a paper published by the Royal Society.

Using a weather-based model, a research team led by Rothamsted Research found that warmer winters accelerated the date of stem canker appearance in spring and increased the severity before harvest. It predicts that epidemics will spread north to Scotland.
