Potato growers can collect cpd points for NRoSO and BASIS with two new Farmers Weekly Academies, sponsored by Bayer CropScience.
The first academy tackles field selection and Frontier’s Les Sykes outlines what how fields should be selected and sampled now for the 2009 crop.
The second, which will be available Friday morning, focuses on blight control with timeliness being the key to successful spray strategies this season.
More aggressive blight strains, points out Mr Sykes, are producing larger lesions, more spores per lesion area and completing their life cycle at lower temperatures. This means growers should consider shorter spraying intervals.
