Potato industry confidence survey: Have your say

GB Potatoes has launched a new Potato Industry Confidence Survey aimed at capturing a comprehensive picture of grower sentiment, production trends and the challenges shaping the future of the potato sector across Great Britain.

The survey will measure business confidence and gather detailed data on the hectares of potatoes being grown, creating the first consistent nationwide benchmark of production levels in recent years.

The organisation says this information has been missing from the industry and is vital for improving decision-making across the supply chain.

After several years of cost volatility, shifting market conditions, and increasing scrutiny around sustainability and environmental performance, GB Potatoes believes now is a critical moment to collect robust data on both confidence and production.

The findings will help growers, the wider industry and government bodies better understand the scale, distribution and operational realities of potato cultivation.

GB Potatoes chairman Alex Godfrey said the survey goes beyond sentiment alone.

“This survey is about much more than confidence. It is about understanding the reality of what is being grown, where, and under what conditions,” he said.

“By quantifying both production hectarage and the pressures growers are managing every day – from costs to labour and water availability – we can build a clear, data-driven picture of the sector.”

Shape discussions

The results will feed into GB Potatoes’ annual Confidence and Production Report, providing evidence to inform engagement with government, research bodies and the supply chain, and to shape discussions around investment, productivity and long-term resilience.

The survey is open until 13 February 2026. All participants will be entered into a prize draw to win a ÂŁ50 voucher.

Growers can take part online via the Potato Industry Confidence Survey.
