Harvest had finished with no problems for Ian Sparey at Tryfan Barn, Worcester.

Twenty-eight hectares (70acres) of Einstein winter wheat all yielded over 8t/ha (3.2t/acre), and he said there were no problems with yields at all, with some up over 9t/ha (3.6t/acre).

Quality had been fine with bushel weights of 78-80kg/hl. Protein levels were 9.6-10.1% but he said they did not grow Einstein for milling so protein was not so important.

Mr Sparey would be growing Einstein again next year.

He added: “Most people have finished in the area, with only the odd patch of spring beans and bits of wheat still to cut.”
