Quality concerns in Bedfordshire
Harvest is yet to get underway for Bedfordshire contractor Matt Redman, who is extremely concerned about quality of both oilseed rape and wheat.
“Cordiale has been affected no end with fusarium,” he said.
The Cabernet oilseed rape at Lower Gravenhurst was just about ready to combine, so he was keeping his fingers crossed.
“It’s just a waiting game. We have 44ha of rapeseed and 130ha of Invicta and Cordiale wheat to cut – and I expect wheat yields will be down.”
However, he was thankful not to have had as much rain as some other farmers had had.
“Luckily, we’ve not had the rain which Lincolnshire and counties further north have had. Our crops are still standing.”
